Rocky Posters Just Keep Coming OutNot many movie franchises that enjoy popularity that lasts several sequels and covers 3 decades. The Rocky franchise created by Sylvester Stallone has done just that. When Stallone first pitched the original Rocky movie idea to film executives in the 1970's he made sure of two things, he made sure that he was given creative control over the entire franchise and that he was going to appear in the starring role. The first Rocky came out in 1976 and coincided with the bicentennial celebrations all across the United States. What better way to celebrate the 200th Independence Day than with a movie about two boxers that fight it out on the fourth of July? It was genius and the simplicity with which the advertising campaign approached the movie was genius as well. Along with a trademark movie Stallone wanted a trademark song and now just about anyone knows what the trumpets are blasting by the first few notes. The theme to Rocky was on the charts all over the world and the movie was a success even before it hit the screen. To capitalize on that simplicity that allowed so many people to get excited by the movie the first Rocky print for the movie was very simple. That first Rocky poster was just the word Rocky in huge white letters against a black background with a silhouette of Stallone in the middle. Simple but effective. So effective that Rocky prints started selling like crazy and soon Rocky posters were all over the place. In the 1970's Rocky was definitely a heavyweight champion of movies. Down through the years the Rocky movie poster didn't change much and Rocky movie posters for the sequels started to show more images while still trying to retain that simplistic image. Along with the Rocky posters that were selling there was also a Sylvester Stallone poster of him in his Rocky costume that became very popular as well. It just kept snowballing until Sylvester Stallone was in danger of being recognized only for his role in Rocky. Of course we all know that Stallone managed to put out a few more franchise role and in recent years he has decided to revisit his two most popular roles with new movies. In 2006 and 2007 Sylvester Stallone revived Rocky and Rambo with new movies. Now there are Rocky 6 posters all over the place but the movie is not called Rocky 6. If you want to be correct about it then you would actually call it a Rocky Balboa poster. In November of 2006 there was a sighting of a Rocky Balboa print just about everywhere you looked as Stallone revived his iconic character just one more time. Even more amazing that a sixth Rocky movie was made was the fact that Stallone still looked in shape to play the role. I guess even after 30 years some things just never change. It is also nice to see Sylvester Stallone embrace again the roles that really put him on the map as far as movie goers all over the world are concerned and show that it really is possible to put off the effects of aging for just one more go around.
